“He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.” — Ephesians 1:5
A Glimpse of My Story
When my husband and I walked through challenges starting our family, God led us to adoption — and what was supposed to take years happened in just two months. Thirteen years later, our daughter is a radiant reminder that adoption is not just a Plan B, but a beautiful part of God’s perfect plan. And through or story, I came to understand something deeper: adoption isn’t only an earthly experience. It’s also the very heart of the gospel.

Adoption in the Bible
The Bible speaks often of adoption — not just in the sense of caring for children in need, but as the spiritual reality of how God welcomes us into His family.
We are chosen. Just as adoptive parents choose a child, God chose us. Not reluctantly, but joyfully. Ephesians 1:5 says He “predestined us for adoption” because it delighted Him.
We are given a new identity. Adoption isn’t temporary; it’s permanent. Galatians 4:7 says, “You are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
We are deeply loved. Romans 8:15 tells us we have received the “Spirit of adoption,” by which we cry out, “Abba, Father.” That word “Abba” is intimate — like “Dad.” It reflects the closeness we’re invited into.
Earthly Adoption & Heavenly Adoption
When we adopted our daughter, she didn’t earn her place in our family. She didn’t have to prove her worth. She was simply ours. And isn’t that a picture of how God loves us? We don’t earn His acceptance. We don’t strive for His approval. He brings us into His family because of His grace, not our performance.
Adoption — whether earthly or spiritual — is about being chosen, loved, and given a home.
A Word of Encouragement
Friend, maybe you’ve never thought of yourself as “adopted,” but if you are in Christ, you’ve been brought into God’s forever family. You are chosen. You are loved. You belong.
And just like a parent delights in their child, your Heavenly Father delights in you.
A Simple Prayer
Father, thank You for adopting me into Your family through Jesus. Remind me daily that I am chosen, loved, and secure in You. Help me live from that identity, and extend that same love to others. Amen.
